If my child is breezing through school above grade level with no academic difficulties and I decide to take her out to see a play, spend the day with extended family in town for a limited time or whatever than why should we be penalized? The point of education is to become educated. If she is demonstrating this by grades and quality of work then what is the problem? Or is the issue more about who really controls the children? I think that if I kept her out of school 180 days and she still passed her achievement tests or whatever then can anyone really complain?(I guess that would be more like homeschooling). YES the parents play the most important role in a child's actions and choices growing up- but at the end of the day- we need to stop micromanaging the world.
