Five Must Do Activities on your Maui Group Vacation

Maui is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, and rightly so. The beautiful island has so much to offer. There are so many things to do on Maui, that sometimes you can be overwhelmed with options. If these activities get you excited for a group vacation to Maui, then check out oceanside group vacation rentals in Maui. Group vacation rentals are an ideal option for any group visiting Maui. Hotels are great for couples, but vacation rentals will be perfect for your group.

Here are five group activities that you should definitely take advantage of:

1. Surfing

On your Maui group vacation you definitely need to go surfing. Hawaii is famous for some of the best surf breaks in the world, and chances are that when you return home all your friends are going to ask you, “Did you learn to surf?”. Although it may seem like a daunting task to learn to surf, it’s really not. Along the shores of South Maui and West Maui there are so many beginner surf breaks. Many hotels have surf rental places, and there are also companies unaffiliated with hotels that would love to teach you. Group rates for this activity vary, but it’s well worth the money. Surf school companies will send one of their professional surfers out into the water with your group. They will provide you with boards, and then teach you the basics. By the end of your session you will have caught dozens of waves. Most surf school companies also have a photographer either out in the water with you or photographing your group from land. This way, when your friends back home ask if you can surf, you can proudly show them your pictures.

2. Luau

The second group activity that you should definitely do is attend a luau. One of my favorites is the luau at the Grand Wailea hotel. All of the hotels have them though, so you can go wherever you’re located on the island. A luau is one of the best group activities there are. You’ll get to relax and unwind, watching a gorgeous Maui sunset and eating exotic food. The performances are astounding. The graceful dancers will entrance you and the music will leave you feeling mesmerized. Watch carefully while you eat because the dancing and music tell a story, which will likely also be told by a narrator. There’s nothing better than an evening with entertainment, beautiful surroundings, and Kalua Pork.

3. Hana

Another thing that is unique to Maui, is Hana. If you get car sick, you’ve been warned. The road is quite treacherous leading out into the jungles of Hana, but it’s well worth it. You can visit the seven sacred pools, which lead down to the beach in descending order down the side of the mountain. The Pipiwai Trail is above the sacred pools, and is an incredible experience for groups who are more active. The trail is two miles long each way and leads to a 400 foot tall waterfall. On the way, you’ll have to cross some little streams and you’ll get to go through a bamboo forest. If hiking isn’t for your group, you can spend time at the beach. One of the best things in Hana is the black sand. If you thought the white sand beaches on Maui were heavenly, wait until you see a black sand beach. The dark finely ground lava rock contrasts with the turquoise water, leaving its visitors wondering if they’re in a dream.

4. Kayaking

Rent a couple of kayaks with your group, and paddle out to see what the ocean offers. If you’re visiting during whale season, you’ll probably get a closer view to these magnificent creatures. If not, you’ll still have the chance to see dolphins. You’re sure to see some turtles on your journey as well. Watch for their heads to pop up out of the water to take a breath. The earlier you go out in the morning, the better. The trade winds pick up after ten and make it more difficult to paddle. In the morning the water will be as smooth as glass, letting you see everything down below.

5. Maui Zipline

One last group activity that is sure to leave you breathless is the Maui Zipline. If you’ve been ziplining before, this is sure to exceed your expectations. There are five ziplines next to each other, so you can race your group members. The ziplines range from 300 to 900 feet above the ground and sail over some of the most beautiful nature in Maui. The tour is located at the Maui Tropical Plantation, and before the ziplining begins you get a brief tour of the plantation. You can visit for more details on safety, pricing, and what to bring.

These are just the beginning of options for group activities. Maui is one of the most wonderful places in the world and is a great place to take your family and friend.
